Cuts:
From
11/64" natural, cut 7–14"
Base:
Lay
two of the spokes horizontally in front of you, weave the five
remaining spoke so that your base measures 1/2" x 1 1/2".
Twine 2 times with #1 round reed and upset your spokes.
Sides:
Trim
a piece of 11/64" flat/oval dyed for approximately 7 inches.
Weave a twill pattern of over two and behind one. 14 rows for the
short one (with the heart) and 18 rows for the tall one (with the
tree) trimming the last row as you did for the first.
Rim:
Step
one: Clip a piece of 11/64" approximately 10" long to the
inside of the basket above the top trimmed row of weaving. Bring the
spoke over this 10" piece of reed and back out under the reed to
the outside of the basket. Repeat around the whole basket. Trim the
excess you have after a 3 spoke overlap of the 10" piece.
Step
two: Take one outside spoke, bring it diagonally to the right
Over
the spoke to the right of the spoke in your hand
Under
the 2nd spoke over.
Clip
the end of the diagonal spoke to go behind this spoke.
You
will need to do a bit of wiggling to get the last two ends to go in
properly. By the way, this border is my version of a “matchstick
border”
Stain
your basket if you wish the proceed with the embellishing.
Embellishing:
Tie
your button onto the basket with jute. I found that if I threaded
the jute onto a needle it was much easier to do this. This is a
really tiny opening on the top of this basket and a bit tricky to do
which is why one is knotted on the inside and one tied with a bow on
the outside.
Cut
a length of 20 gauge wire approximately 24". Thread each end of
the wire under the rim and twist with the large loop on the top. My
ends were roughly 7" long. Wrap the wire around a round pencil
or 3/8" dowel rod. And then “fluff” the loops.
